BMW LayerON Concept: Personalized Rent Car

The BMW LayerON Concept is a design developed for the future, with an outlook to 2015. Created by Turin IED students Aydar Nigmatullin, Patrick De Laet Moreno and Rocco Sergio D’Argento, and sponsored by BMW, the concept is built on the basis of consumer habits, preferences and the desire for personalization.

Built on the idea that a post-industrial society would be based on vast use of services and decreased buying, but increased renting of goods, the concept has been developed as a rental car. True to its name, the LayerON has a skeleton like structure covered by a layer of panels to create the “outer skin”. The panels are combined with the internal skeleton layer that has the ability to contract and dilate, thereby giving the vehicle a custom shape. Moreover, the design would allow downloading personal driver settings, for custom appearance and interface.
